The initial concept was developed by the
universities of Bradford and Aberdeen in the UK
during an on-site investigation into the effects of
blast operations on ground anchors. The research
explored the relationship between the load on rock
reinforcement system and vibration.
The results formed the basis of the GRANIT™ system, since when Halcrow has been instrumental in its continuing development.
Halcrow now holds an exclusive world-wide licence for the deployment of GRANIT™.
The GRANIT system works by applying axially, a small impulse through a impact device to the tendon. The vibrational response is captured through an accelerometer linked to the computer in the field equipment.
This data is transferred and then analysed using several techniques at the GRANIT head office in Melbourne, Australia. The results are posted into the client's secure folder on the project website.
As the system is non-destructive it is infinitely repeatable.
The system includes:-
- proprietory field equipment
- the collection of data
- the analysis of data
- issue results
