Our goal is to become the consultant that clients and partners naturally seek out when addressing their greatest challenges. Halcrow has considerable experience in the provision of services to the nuclear industry; to support the development of operational facilities, decommissioning and new build, for both civilian and military facilities.

We are working with our clients to deliver pragmatic solutions to some challenging projects, including the Dounreay shaft isolation for UKAEA and two modern ILW stores, at Hunterston ‘A’ and Hinkley Point ‘A’ for BNG. We’re also providing services for the low level waste repository at Drigg and have worked at a number of British Energy’s sites for the last ten years.

We provide integrated design and management services for any nuclear related project and presently offer two primary service bands to the nuclear industry:

  • Multidisciplinary engineering and design - a full design service providing substantiation or life extending projects for existing facilities to the provision of new facilities
  • Client support services - a comprehensive range of support services to assist and enable our clients to effectively plan and deliver the most diverse site requirements

Working alongside our clients, we’re working to understand and develop appropriate solutions to the challenges facing their organisations. As part of our clients’ teams we constructively challenge and validate designs and operational assumptions. We’re helping our clients to meet their statutory and regulatory obligations whilst delivering value for money.

With over twenty years continuous involvement in the UK nuclear industry, our specialists are recognised internationally for their professionalism and range of capabilities. By concentrating on client and project expectations, we have developed an exceptionally broad skill base, encompassing Geomatics, civil and structural engineering, coastal engineering, mechanical and electrical engineering, building services, shielding, hazard and risk assessments, environmental assessments, safety case, project management and contract support.

Our ‘One Halcrow’ approach means that, whatever the challenge, there is a person somewhere in the world who has the solution. Our global network of specialists are highly experienced and have access to the latest IT and software technology. We are renowned for our earthquake engineering and the application of new technologies, such as carbon-fibre strengthening, base isolation and performance-based design.

We work under different contractual arrangements within the supply chain, including: alliances and partnerships, term commissions and within design and build contracts.

We have BS EN ISO 9001 and the internationally recognised ISO14001 standard for environmental management. In 2006, we received formal recognition for our environmental commitment through the EU’s prestigious Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
