For the second time Halcrow has joined forces with Whitchurch High School in Cardiff to create a competition to test the students’ imagination, flare and ability to work to a brief.
Year 13 students spent time with Halcrow’s Paul Maliphant and Lorna Davis exploring the meaning of sustainability and Halcrow’s role in it, and looking at sustainable regeneration projects the company has been involved in.
Whitchurch students were challenged to produce an A3 piece of artwork with the theme of Halcrow’s role within sustainable regeneration.
Winners of the art competition were announced at a school art exhibition. Prizes were presented on 25 June by Paul Maliphant, head teacher Huw Jones-Williams and retiring head of sixth form Rob Davies. The students’ work also contributes to their A Level portfolio.
Rob Davies commented at the prize-giving event: “You [Halcrow] build bridges worldwide from Abu Dhabi to Wellington, tonight you’re building a bridge between a multinational company and a community – our community school.”
The students’ artwork now sits in Halcrow’s Cardiff office.
