The Cross Valley link road and Upton flood attenuation area phases two and three project has won the Public Sector Award for Encouraging Sustainable Development for its client, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), in the Estates Gazette’s Green Awards.
This follows the success earlier this year at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) East Midlands Merit Awards where the project brought home the Merit Award for the Large Project category as well as an ‘excellent’ whole project award rating from the Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Award scheme (CEEQUAL), which evaluates environmental performance from project inception through to construction completion.
Undertaken for the Homes and Communities Agency, the project provides a strategic road link to the south west of Northampton, connecting residential and commercial land being developed on either side of the River Nene floodplain, and contributing to the regeneration aspirations of the Homes and Communities Agency (formerly English Partnerships).
The awards reward excellence in sustainable development and raising environmental awareness, something that is close to Halcrow’s heart.
Halcrow’s project director, Trevor Rackley, acknowledged the multi-disciplinary team’s efforts in delivering this win for HCA: “HCA adopted CEEQUAL as a quality standard requirement for all its construction projects, and Halcrow’s team of planners, engineers and environmentalists have worked hard to achieve the “excellent” CEEQUAL rating for CVLR – HCA’s first such award. This, together with the ICE award recognising the project’s innovative and sustainable achievements, has proven HCA’s – and Halcrow’s – commitment to sustainable development, and rightly justifies this Estates Gazette award win for HCA.”
