Twenty one Halcrow employees have told the stories of their career journeys on camera to help inspire and advise young people who are about to join the working world.
The filming project is just one of hundreds of similar events taking place around the country to create a living archive of real-life careers stories created by icould, and managed by CRAC: the Career Development Organisation.
icould’s aim is to provide young people with real stories from real people talking candidly about their working lives in order to help them make the right choices about their own careers.
Its team of specially trained story-gatherers are travelling the length and breadth of the UK searching out interesting tales of inspiration, hard-work, tenacity, determination, education and, in a lot of cases, a healthy dose of good luck too!
Workers from jobs as diverse as cemetery supervisors to dress designers are taking part and the team at Halcrow were among the first to sign-up.
Group human resources director, Mandy Clarke said:
“Our employees draw on a broad range of education and experience, and each plays a key part in the success of the diverse services our organisation delivers.
This project gave us a chance to link up with young people in an innovative and inspiring way. We hope the stories filmed here not only encourage the young people who use the icould.com website to find the right career path for them but also encourage other employers and employees to come forward and tell their stories".
For icould working with the Halcrow team was a real coup.
icould director, David Arnold added: “Halcrow is very highly respected both within its sector and amongst its staff. We were delighted to have their support and hope that people watching the films will find them as inspiring as we did.”
Halcrow’s market sector director for containers, Julian Johanson-Brown took part in the scheme, he said: “It’s a great idea for genuine insights into a truly diverse range of careers. The filming and background interviews were a lot of fun and I will undoubtedly continue to offer my support to this great initiative and resource. I thoroughly recommend others in Halcrow to offer these insights into our industry and to get involved in icould”.
