October 2009
Halcrow Yolles' Doha team is proud to have played a key role in two of the projects recognised at the recent Middle East Architect Awards gala. Our projects dominated the Overall Project of the Year category, with the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha selected as the winner and Carnegie Mellon University receiving a Special Commendation.
For the Museum of Islamic Art, Halcrow Yolles's land development department in Doha worked with sub-contractor Cracknells, under the direct guidance and patronage of His Highness the Emir, Her Highness Sheikha Mouza, and Sheikha Mayassa, to develop the landscaping design conceived by the project's internationally respected architect, I M Pei. With its rolling green park landscape, subtle architectural lighting, reflecting pools and ponds and impressive vistas of the museum and the Doha Corniche, the completed design makes a valuable contribution to the beauty and peace of the museum and its environs.
In the role of executive architect, the Halcrow Yolles team for Carnegie Mellon's facility in Doha provided services in architectural detailing, interior design, structural design and building services. Their collaboration with architects Legorretta and Legorretta and other project team members resulted in a truly world class business and computer science facility.
2009 was the inaugural year for the awards program, which saw 250 of the region's top architects, developers and engineers gather in Dubai to recognise the best in architectural standards in the region.
