New commercial building brings life to Toronto’s waterfront

October 2009

Toronto’s first new waterfront commercial building in the recently re-zoned area near the Jarvis Street slip was topped off this summer at an official ceremony attended by Mayor David Miller.

The structure is situated south of Queen's Quay on the shores of Lake Ontario and will house 1,200 employees of media giant Corus Entertainment.

Miller praised Corus for having the courage and foresight to be the first new building in the developing waterfront district, which will contribute to the vibrancy of the city by providing spaces to live, work, learn and play. He said that “Corus is symbolic of the future industries of Toronto.”

Halcrow Yolles is providing full structural engineering services for the 565,000 square foot, seven-storey glass-clad tower, which is targeting LEED Gold certification. The building was developed by the City of Toronto Economic Development Corporation (TEDCO) and designed by Diamond and Schmitt Architects.

Construction for the Corus Quay office and broadcast centre began in the fall of 2007 and will be completed in late 2009.
