A-one+, Halcrow’s joint venture with Colas and Costain, has secured its place as the UK’s leading managing agent contractor (MAC) in England having secured the Area 14 MAC contract. For the last seven years A-one, the Halcrow/Colas joint venture, managed the Area 14 network on behalf of the Highways Agency.
Now responsible for an unprecedented four contract areas − Area 7, 10, 12 and 14 − the Aone+ team will manage 32 per cent of England’s motorway and trunk road network. The award will increase Aone+’s annual turnover to over £190 million per annum, boosting its forward order book to in excess of £750 million.
The £115 million Area 14 contract starts on 1 July 2010 and runs for five years with an option to extend for a further two years. Aone+ will be responsible routine operational and maintenance services and deliver improvements on the motorways and trunk roads throughout Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, Durham, and North Yorkshire. The area comprises some 635km of motorways and trunk roads and 420 structures, such as bridges and gantries.
