A Halcrow-designed poster promoting a new version of an influential beach management manual won the best poster accolade at the Environment Agency's flood and coastal risk management conference at Telford in July.

Beaches play an important role as either the sole bariers to coastal flooding and erosion or as part of manmade defences. Optimal beach managment focuses on the daily tasks of monitoring, maintaining, repairing, responding to emergencies and designing schemes where required. the new manual updates the original 1996 version, and will be released this summer.

Designed by Halcrow's Jonathan Rogers, the winning poster used an Advent calendar format to promote the manual from the Construction Industry Research and Information Association. Halcrow is a member of this consortium which includes leading beach management practitioners, consultants and scientists.

Jonathan, who was also the lead author of the updated manual, said: “I hope the manual will prove to be as successful as the poster and provide practitioners with the tools, references and mechanisms for managing their beaches effectively.”
