June 2010
Established industry insider, Mark Gabriel, senior vice president for Halcrow’s power business in North America, will be a keynote speaker and exclusive panel moderator at two high-profile energy events this June.
Starting at the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) on 14 June in Hollywood, Florida, Mark will be moderating the panel “Partnerships for Meeting the Customer in the Home.” This panel will discuss the ways that utilities and suppliers are helping customers manage energy consumption in their homes. Panelists include representatives from Great Plains Energy, Wisconsin Public Service and Florida Power & Light.
The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) is the association of US shareholder-owned electric companies. Established in 1933, EEI works closely with all of its members, representing their interests and advocating equitable policies in legislative and regulatory arenas.
Then heading north, Mark’s speech “Load Forecasting in Uncertain Times” will take place 21 June at the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. “Load forecasting has become much more challenging due to the increasing real costs of energy, the economic downturn, the impact of mandatory conservation regimes, the increasing interest in efficiency, and the potential imposition of additional environmental protection costs,” said Mark. This presentation will offer forecasters methods to use in planning to meet future energy demands.
The APPA is the service organisation for the nation's more than 2,000 community-owned electric utilities that serve more than 45 million Americans. Its purpose is to advance the public policy interests of its members and their consumers, and provide member services to ensure adequate, reliable electricity at a reasonable price with the proper protection of the environment. Its annual conference features sessions on the topics facing the electric utility industry and public power, covering all facets of utility governance and operations.
Based in Denver, Mark is the author of the new book Visions for a Sustainable Energy Future published by Fairmont Press and the winner of the 2009 Indie Award for Excellence in Environmental Writing. For more information on Visions click here.
