International construction publication Infrastructure Journal and financial services firm KPMG have recently published their Infrastructure 100 list.
The list provides a report on top infrastructure projects from around the world, as selected by independent judging panels due to their scale, complexity, innovation and impact on society. Halcrow was invited to join the panel to assess entries from the Middle East region.
Many Halcrow projects were included in the 100, such as Jordan’s Disi water conveyance project and London's high profile Crossrail project.
A booklet has been produced, showcasing those that made the list and offering a more detailed look at ten key projects – one from each of the following categories: water, transport, rail, road, healthcare, renewables, oil and gas, power and social infrastructure.
Among the ten featured projects was the Brazil TAV high speed rail project. Halcrow delivered a feasibility study for the line between Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Campinas, covering demand, alignment, technical feasibility, business review and operations. Now the scheme has been given the go-ahead, and work on the 515km route is set to begin later this year.
Middle East regional managing director David Yaw represented Halcrow on the judging panel. Commenting on his involvement, he said: “For Halcrow to be asked to join this initiative underlines industry recognition of our position as international leader in infrastructure projects.”
The project aims to highlight the importance of infrastructure and planning for the future in this fast changing world.
