Scottish Business in the Community held their annual UK Awards for Excellence and Company of the Year Awards on Wednesday 2 June, as part of The Sustainable Scotland Summit at Holyrood Palace.
The awards celebrate businesses that have shown innovation, creativity and a sustained commitment to responsible and sustainable business practice.
The esteemed UK Awards for Excellence highlight practical examples of programmes undertaken, that make a real difference to the community, marketplace, workplace and environment. The awards, presented by HRH Prince Charles Duke of Rothesay, celebrate businesses that have shown innovation, creativity and a sustained commitment to responsible and sustainable business practice.
Halcrow’s offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness won the "Sustainable Travel Award - Highly Commended".
Halcrow put forward a submission based on its green travel plans, increased use of video conferencing, cycle to work schemes, health initiatives, spring in to Action programme and innovative parking charges to fund bus tokens.
The judging panel commented:
"Halcrow's Sustainable Travel Award entry was of an exceptionally high standard and included many best practice and innovative elements clearly identifying them as a 'leader in the field'. Reducing the impacts of commuting and business travel is part of Halcrow's core business strategy and they show strong commitment and clear leadership in delivering substantial and measured improvements. This application is considered exemplary and is therefore highly commended".
Regional director, John Walker collected the award from Prince Charles and the event which was attended by major clients including the Scottish Government, Scottish Power and local authorities.
