Halcrow has recently completed a revision of the Standard Specifications for Construction Works of the Ministry of Works in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The updated specifications have now been published and are ready for implementation. The specifications, which are available in hard copy and electronically, provide a single reference document for the design and construction of buildings, infrastructure and other civil engineering projects.
Halcrow was responsible for all aspects of the consultancy service of this project under the direction of the official steering committee and client, the Ministry of Works.
The specifications were launched at a ceremony held in Bahrain. At the launch, His Excellency the Minister of Works, Fahmi Bin Ali Al Jowder, recognised the “effort and work undertaken by Halcrow to achieve the objectives and scope of the review process.”
The specifications are arranged into 21 modules covering all aspects of construction from concrete and earthworks to roofing, landscaping and shoreline protection. Utilising the most up-to-date international standards and global best practice, the specifications unify all previous standards in place in Bahrain and provide a comprehensive set of consistent technical standards.
Project director David Pocock said, “This has been a long and complex project and we are extremely pleased with the final product. We hope this document may also have a regional application in the future.”
Halcrow’s work on this project continues with a two-year support period to ensure the successful implementation of the specifications.
