Halcrow has been supporting a Scottish initiative to prepare school children for the working world.

St Roch's secondary school in Glasgow has been piloting the initiative known as the Skills for Life and Work programme.

The programme is targeted at S4 pupils and is designed to support students in the development of confidence and work skills.  It’s supported by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and reflects the Scottish Government's new Curriculum for Excellence which is designed to break down barriers between schools and the workplace.

"We are delighted to support this pioneering initiative" commented Donald Bell, Halcrow's regional director for Glasgow.  "It reflects our purpose to ‘sustain and improve the quality of peoples' lives’.  Halcrow has hosted office visits from the school and has carried out mock interviews with students.  We have had great feedback from the school and the students on our input.  In addition, carrying out the mock interviews and presentations has provided career development for our employees, so it's win-win".

Pupils taking part in the scheme were interviewed on the Scottish Qualifications Authority website. The video can be seen here.

Frank Delury, Deputy Head Teacher of St Roch's said: "Halcrow has greatly assisted us with this programme and it has made a real difference to the confidence of our students in dealing with the world of work".
