Halcrow has helped organise a successful free conference at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow.
The Roads for All Conference in June provided a high quality free event in central Scotland to encourage attendance. The public, private and voluntary sectors were all represented with delegates attending from local authorities, central government, contractors, consultants, disability organisations, charities and access panels amongst others.
Chaired by author and broadcaster Muriel Gray, the theme of the Roads for All conference was ‘working together to open the door to independent travel along Scotland’s roads’. It covered a range of topics including the legal perspective; the work of local access panels; case studies of Transport Scotland pilot projects; and how technology can be utilised to enhance journeys.
Stewart Stevenson, MSP, Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Climate Change delivered the keynote address on the drive to improve accessibility in Scotland.
A short video highlighting the issues faced when undertaking journeys on the road network was shown to delegates.
The conference was organised by representatives of Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government together with partner organisations including: Halcrow; Scottish Disability Equality Forum; Mobility and Access Committee Scotland; Equality and Human Rights Commission; the Society of Chief Officers of Transportation in Scotland (SCOTS); The Highland Council; Guide Dogs for the Blind Association; and ENABLE Scotland.
