Even though I’d read that clever architects and engineers had made these deceptively gossamer boxes strong and safe, the picture spooked me

The Ledge, the innovative viewing platform at Willis Tower in Chicago, has been named as one of the world’s coolest observation decks by Travel and Leisure Magazine.

Travel writer Karrie Jacobs stated “Even though I’d read that clever architects and engineers had made these deceptively gossamer boxes strong and safe, the picture spooked me. It also made me want to go there… Your brain might say yes, but your instincts say no.”

The Ledge, for which Halcrow Yolles provided structural and glass engineering services, joins the world’s highest ferris wheel at Guangzhon TV and Sightseeing Tower, China and the tethered viewing Skywalk at the SkyTower in Auckland, New Zealand among the world’s most dramatic viewing experiences.
