April 2010
Representatives from the Halcrow Foundation were delighted to officially open the new Halcrow Therapy Room at the Swindon Therapy Centre for Multiple Sclerosis (SRC) on Friday 16 April.
The room was funded by The Halcrow Foundation, after an application was put forward from the STC and a Halcrow employee.
Since its formation, the centre has continued to offer therapies, advice and support to MS people and their families in Swindon and the local area being the only centre within a 35 - mile radius of Swindon. The centre plays an invaluable role in the local community since it provides services not available through the National Health Service; indeed many doctors refer patients to the centre. The group's activities are a lifeline for its many members and their families, who are actively encouraged, through mutual support, to face the reality of Multiple Sclerosis and the possible challenges it brings.
The Halcrow Therapy room will give people the opportunity to experience the benefit of various holistic therapists including, Reiki, Reflexology and Indian Head Therapy, as well as Aromatherapy and Body Massage.
These therapies help people manage their condition positively and to remain in work, keeping them as mobile and as independent as possible. It can also help them to remain out of hospital, as well as alleviating the feelings of isolation often experienced on initial diagnosis. It helps their general sense of well-being and gives them special ‘pamper time’.
Having been operational since January 2005, the Halcrow Foundation gained charitable status in the UK on 9 August 2006. It is registered charity number 1115729.
Halcrow donates one per cent of its annual profits to the foundation, as well as making a significant contribution in terms of people’s time and its resources. Halcrow’s employees also raise funds through a range of activities, such as sponsored walks, raffles and cake sales, as well as donating money directly. The general public are welcome to make a donation to support the foundation's work
The Halcrow Foundation’s vision is to bring tangible and sustainable improvements to the lives of people in need.
