April 2011

Seven Halcrow specialists have shared their expertise at the 2011 CIWEM annual Water and Environment conference.

The two-day conference which was held on the 6 and 7 April at the Olympia Conference Centre, had the theme of ‘Big Society: Future Environment’.

The aim of the conference was to challenge and inspire the water and environmental community by sharing knowledge and best practice, which is at the heart of meeting key global challenges. With a mix of keynote speakers, offered papers, exhibitions and networking opportunities, it is seen as the key event for water and environment professionals.

On day one of the conference, Jon Holland and Ed Morris presented: ‘Protecting the Big Society – Flood Defence: Less is More’ and Nigel Pontee presented: ‘Localisation: A Barrier to Strategic Flood and Coastal Risk Management’. Nigel’s presentation was recognised the following week in New Civil Engineer.

On the second day, Halcrow’s Elliot Gill chaired the second session on SUD’s and surface water management. Murray Dale presented: ‘Implementing Probabilistic Flood Forecasting to Save Money while Safeguarding People and Property’, John Martin presented on: ‘A Public-Private Partnership Model that works: Delivery of water and sanitation to the poor’ and Geoff Sweaney presented: ‘Performance of sustainable wastewater treatment systems in the UK water industry’.
