Halcrow’s York office has signed up to be part of the UK’s first cycle hub station.
The city-wide initiative, which is funded by City of York Council and Cycling City York, aims to encourage people to cycle in to work as part of a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
Based in an old electricity substation, the hub provides a wide range of facilities for cyclists including showers and lockers, emergency repairs and refreshments.
The Hub is also in partnership with the North Yorkshire Police who offer a free bicycle registration service in a bid to reduce cycle crime.
Many of Halcrow’s York office staff cycle into work and the new facilities will give them a safe and secure place to leave their bike and to get ready for their trip to and from the office.
Halcrow’s Richard Hudson, who cycles to work every day, said:
“This new scheme is a great opportunity for the York office to take part in. Cycle parking has always been difficult due to a lack of available spaces.
The hub will eliminate these problems and hopefully encourage further members of staff and the public to take advantage of the new centre.”
