September 2011
Halcrow engineer, Melanie Buckley has been nominated for the Karen Burt Award 2011 by the Energy Institute.
Awarded by the Women’s Engineering Society, the award is given annually to a woman engineer of high calibre who has newly attained full corporate membership and chartered engineer status.
The award not only recognises the candidate’s excellence and potential in the practice of engineering, but also gives recognition to contributions made by the candidate to the promotion of the engineering profession.
Each participating accrediting engineering institution nominates only one candidate and so the nomination itself is recognition of achievement and excellence.
Melanie said: “I was delighted to obtain chartered engineer status and feel honoured to have been nominated for the Karen Burt Award. Like Karen, I initially trained as a physicist and hope that my nomination will help to encourage graduates from related disciplines to consider a career in engineering.”
