February 2012
Halcrow’s GRANIT (GRound ANchor Integrity Testing system) has been shortlisted for the 2012 Ground Engineering Awards in the Product and Equipment Innovation category.
The Ground Engineering Awards are a celebration of geotechnical and geoenvironmental achievements. They are an opportunity to recognise and reward projects that have accomplished significant results. They are also a great opportunity to bring together the industry's key players for a day of inspiration, celebration and networking.
Ground Engineering said: “We received a record number of entries this year, and at a very high standard, so being a finalist is a fantastic achievement”.
GRANIT (GRound ANchor Integrity Testing) is the world’s first rapid, effective, multiple capability, non-destructive anchor integrity testing system for rockbolts used in mining, tunnelling and slope stability. The system can also be used on most civil engineering solid bar ground anchorage systems and stressing bars in bridge decks.
GRANIT testing involves sending a small impact impulse through the bolt/bar generated by an electronic solenoid. The vibrational response is captured and then analysed. The information gathered, once processed, reveals characteristics of the working element which may lead to remedial action.
This is done by analysing the data to identify installation issues, reduced support element length, whether the support element's design or safe working load has been exceeded and potential corrosion issues along the bolt/bar. Significant advantages are the portable self contained nature of the field equipment; it is non-destructive, non-invasive and is infinitely repeatable. Its use can lead to potential cost saving, safety benefits, and increase in quality of installation.
The winner’s will be announced at a prestigious lunchtime awards ceremony on Friday 4 May at the Grosvenor House hotel.
