The sea defences covering 240km of the Romanian Black Sea coast are set for an upgrade.
The defences will get the urgent attention they need as part of a Halcrow-led project. The scheme sets out a comprehensive long-term plan to inhibit erosion that takes into account different pressures and priorities.

“One of the big challenges is to combine solutions for environmental protection and sustainable development with the pressures from urban and tourism areas and development projects for harbours,” said project manager Serban Tiganescu. “Tourism is a major cog in the region’s economic wheel, so maintaining the area’s allure for visitors is essential.”
The project, a first of its kind for eastern Europe given its scale and scope, is reflective of what Halcrow’s Romanian team stands for – innovative approaches, big ideas and cutting-edge work to improve the lives of future generations.
