Halcrow has been involved in the promotion of the project since 2001

Completed in time for the 2010 winter Olympics, the 19km-long Canada Line rapid transit service links Vancouver's downtown area with the city's international airport and the City of Richmond.

The new light rail transit (LRT) line boosts transit capacity equivalent to constructing ten additional traffic lanes through this bustling transport corridor. Halcrow has been involved in the promotion of the project since 2001, helping both the provincial government and private bidders gain a better understanding of the scheme’s future demand potential and customer base.

We examined the potential ridership, revenues and travel benefits associated with different technologies and alignments in 2010, compared and contrasted with forecasts for 2021. Specific tasks included the development of a corridor EMME/2 transit ridership model, analysis of air emissions and fuel consumption, and sensitivity analysis on the effects of different land use, road pricing and transit assumptions.
