Halcrow provided detailed design input for the first large scale liquefied natural gas receipt terminal on the Pacific coast of the Americas

Halcrow has been working in Mexico since the mid-1990s across a range of sectors including transportation, ports, highways and sanitation.

The Energia Costa Azul liquefied natural gas terminal 14 miles north of Ensenada, Baja California in Mexico is the only LNG terminal on the Mexican and Californian coast.

In a two phase contract Halcrow drew on its coastal engineering and LNG jetty design experience for the terminal project which has the capacity to process 28,500,000m³ of gas per day.

In the first phase Halcrow provided design review and verification assistance for the marine structures and detailed design for the revetment to protect the causeway which involved developing and evaluating alternative designs for rock and concrete armour revetment systems. The second phase entailed Halcrow providing front end engineering design for the marine structures and tug harbour facilities for the facility’s expansion.
