The railway that runs along the foot of the cliffs from Folkestone to Dover is on a bed that sometimes shifts. Network Rail of the UK has to ensure it is continually monitored so that travel isn't disrupted.
Halcrow is conducting a five-year survey of the area, providing a safe, secure and reliable monitoring system that indicates clear early warning of potential areas of movement.

New laser scanning survey technology has been utilised, along with traditional sub millimetre level survey and GPS to provide a comprehensive model of the site, this is then measured at quarter year intervals to record any details of movement throughout the survey area.
The survey results are available on a website portal for the client which provides easy access to all surveyed data, clearly showing all elements of movement including historic data, fully georeferenced.
