The commercial hubs inside this development will generate jobs for the local market....

A bright new city is being created in one of the fastest growing countries in the world.

Karachi Waterfront Development (KWD) project is part of Emaar Pakistan’s US$ 2.4 billion investment which includes a series of master planned communities that will set new benchmarks in commercial, residential and retail property within Pakistan.

Located within Karachi's DHA Phase 8, KWD consists of 108 acres of reclaimed land development featuring high and mid-rise towers for residential and commercial use, a shopping centre and a five star beachfront hotel. The towers will contain 4000 residential apartments. The land reclamation project was undertaken from 2006 to 2008 and the land was developed in a crescent shaped marina in line with the Master Plan.

Halcrow International Partnership was given the opportunity to design a master plan for the end piece of land on the peninsula, west of the Clifton district at the mouth of Gizri Creek. The concept master plan established high quality waterfront housing on low lying desert land. The development is based on the assurance to provide land and sea reclamation, that will secure the foundations of the project. Merging the results of coastal engineering studies and urban design strategies a unique coastal frontage was created.

Delivering Value through Innovative Design

Karachi waterfront development is a unique commercial and residential land reclamation project in Pakistan.

The concept was put to reality with innovative design and construction techniques. First, layout plans were shaped to minimise cost and coastal degradation whilst optimising vstas. Second, reclamation was done through land quarries to minimise environmental impacts of dredging and minimise or avoid costs of soil improvement to the Client. Lastly, first ever heavy rock armour sea protection wall in Pakistan to withstand the monsoonal upsurge in the sea.

Benefits

Pakistan is one of the fastest growing economies in the region and its potential remains unreleased. Emaar’s investment will have multiple impact on the local and regional economy. People associated with local and regional construction industry will proactively participate in the development of this project. Similarly, once completed the Karachi water front will attract tourists, from within the country as well as abroad.

The commercial hubs inside this development will generate jobs for the local market which will have a knock-on effect on the local economy. Also, the integration of schools, health facilities, parks, landscaped grounds and retail centers into master-planned golf, equestrian and marina-themed lifestyles will help modernizing the local real estate industry and help create better environments for people to work, live and play.
