Halcrow has been working in Colombia since 1987, mainly in the maritime, petrochemical and sanitation sectors. We are currently expanding our operation in Colombia as the country’s economic growth begins to accelerate.
The 121km Bogota-Girardot highway is the busiest road in Colombia. It forms part of the corridor which links Bogota, the capital, with Buenaventura, Colombia’s largest seaport through which more than 60 per cent of the country’s trade is moved. The road is currently being turned into a dual carriageway with a 4.1km tunnel being built at Boqueron.
Halcrow was commissioned by the road’s toll operator to assess the dual carriage highway proposal in order to support the concessionaire’s application for bank finance.
The £72,000 contract required us to carry out due diligence reports into traffic and revenue, environmental impact and analysing the potential economic impact of the proposal. We also verified the toll station dimensions.
When the work is completed it is anticipated that it will significantly reduce the number of accidents on the road. Journey times between Bogota and Girardot should also be cut by 40 minutes.
