The University of Western Ontario in London is planning a new home on campus for its prestigious Richard Ivey School of Business. This landmark project for the university will be comprised of a glass and stone-cut structure with a total area of 230,000 ft2. The facility will include space for both teaching and scholarship activities, and is intended to be a highly interactive facility which will meet the needs of this leading edge business school.
Built around a central courtyard, three 1- and 2-storey ‘pavilions’ will attach to the main building and will each house a library, dining hall and large lecture theatre respectively. An interior 3-storey atrium interconnected by an open feature staircase, will contain Ivey Hall and serve as meeting place for students. A feature of the atrium will be the full-height glass wall that overlooks the courtyard and contains a skylight overhead. ‘Floating’ meeting rooms will be perched above the front entrance of the building.
Halcrow Yolles is providing full structural engineering services for the project which will include development of the detailed functional programme as well the full range of architectural, interior design and engineering services required.
The building is targeting for LEED Silver certification.
