India's demand for energy is set to double in the next five years, hydro-electric energy is one answer to this problem

Alaknanda HEP is located on the Alaknanda river about 3 km downstream of the Badrinath shrine in the mountainous northern Indian state of Uttaranchal.

The project comprises a diversion dam, 3km long headrace tunnel and underground penstock leading to an underground power station of 300 MW capacity.
