This is the first major highway being built in Sri Lanka post independence

Filmed in November 2006

The 128km highway joins Colombo with Galle and Matara on the south coast cutting the journey time from four hours to one and a half hours, thus boosting economic activity and the regeneration of the south.

Halcrow supervised the construction of the southern half of the highway, which was funded by the Asian Development Bank.
