For volunteers on the stands to be able to have that one-to-one interaction with students, for students to see the positive role models, to actually have their personal questions answered…

In October 2011 Halcrow was invited to take part in a careers event at South Camden Community school in London, by principal London client British Land – one of the largest property development and investment companies in the UK.

Halcrow was providing design services on the award-winning complex of three residential and commercial buildings, and was keen to support the client’s efforts to build a rapport with the local community.

Volunteers at the Halcrow stand were ready to field questions from curious students aged 11 to 17 about what is takes to be an engineer.

Project director Jason Guneratne said: “It’s fantastic to get involved with events like this, not only for the benefit of the project and our relationship with the client, but in terms of encouraging children to consider a career in engineering.”
