Students and graduates - testimonials

It's been great to work on some technically demanding projects, which so far have included Caracas Metro, King's Cross underground station and the High Speed 1, Channel Tunnel Rail Link

See what our recent graduates had to say when asked: Whats best about working for Halcrow

Marcus
Graduate civil engineer, tunnels and underground spaces, London, UK

The newly refurbished floors in Vineyard House, London, are excellent. I like the way management are improving the organisation and initiatives like client relations.

Michael

Assistant engineer, Glasgow, UK

The best thing about working for Halcrow has been the money. It's not a great deal of money by any means, but it's more than I'm used to seeing. It's been a very friendly place to work from day one. I find having flexi-time very beneficial. There is nothing worse than having set hours and needing to stick to them.

Since Halcrow is a worldwide organisation, I have the intention of working abroad for a while, once I have gained enough experience to do so. Goal: to become as experienced as possible and to become chartered as soon as possible.

Matthew

Assistant engineer, bridges, Swindon, UK

When I finished my degree I wanted to work on large civil engineering projects, particularly bridges. My first project at Halcrow was on the design checking for Medway Crossing, UK, the longest high-speed rail link crossing in the world. I am now involved in several major bridge crossings worldwide, including the El Ferdan Bridge in Egypt - the largest moveable bridge in the world.

Keeran

Assistant mechanical engineer, Swindon, UK

The best thing about working for Halcrow is the sheer range of projects you can work on. There are a wide variety of skills to learn.

Gema

Assistant engineer, river engineering, seconded to Waltham Cross, UK

What's best about working for Halcrow is the opportunity of moving in the direction you want to head. In a small office like Waltham Cross, you are recognised for your work and encouraged, even when things do not go too well. Work is team-based, and support is available from all staff. My short-term goal is to go abroad, preferably to South America, and, longer term, I must become chartered under the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Brady

Assistant engineer, special structures, Glasgow, UK

Working with Halcrow has provided a diverse range of challenging projects. I've gained invaluable work experience.

Michael

Graduate engineer, building structures, Edinburgh, UK

Obviously the money is very important, especially after accumulating some debts while studying, but more importantly I feel that the relevant training offered to graduates at an early stage is vital.

It's been great to work on some technically demanding projects, which so far have included Caracas Metro, King's Cross underground station and the High Speed 1, Channel Tunnel Rail Link. I've been given a lot of responsibility, but if ever I get stuck then senior engineers are more than willing to help out.
