Dams and hydraulic structures, Geologist, Delhi, ref: IRC4143

Role purpose
Due to an expansion of Halcrow's work, we are seeking a talented geologist to join our team to undertake field work and design work from concept stage through to scheme design.

The principal function of this position is to plan ground investigations, preparation of technical specifications, interpretation of site data for preparation of geological reports, geotechnical calculations and designs for slopes, foundations, underground works (tunnels and caverns) and retaining structures. Preparation of geological chapter in DPRs for various types of infrastructure projects.

Work will include tunnels, caverns, shafts, flood structures, foundations, earthworks, retaining structures. You will liaise with project teams of varying complexity and size. You will be working on geotechnical aspects of projects in all of Halcrow's business groups though particularly for WBG.

Liaise with statutory authorities for obtaining approval/clearance to DPRs.

Essence of role – key accountabilities
Your priorities in this role will include:

  • planning and supervision of geotechnical and geo physical investigations
  • preparation of technical specifications for geo technical and geo physical investigations
  • preparation of technical notes and reports
  • Geological mapping (surface mapping as well as face mapping)
  • geotechnical calculations
  • designs for underground works, slopes, foundations and retaining structures
  • identification and assessment of quarry and burrow areas
  • requirement to interface with both in-house and client design and project teams

Job requirements
Technical / professional expertise
The ideal candidate should possess an engineering degree/or Geology and preferably a post graduate qualification in engineering geology or equivalent; and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge:

  • be familiar with geotechnical design software
  • some exposure to geotechnical calculations
  • proven record in interpretation of geological reports/investigations
  • sound communication skills both written and verbal
