Role purpose
Halcrow is one of the largest design consultancy in the world resulting in award of several design contracts for significant new projects.  This has created a pool of expertise which has created opening for additional electrical engineers. The principle function of this position is to work within a multidiscipline design team producing electrical designs for hydroelectric power (HEP) schemes. 

The principal function of this position is to taking a design from concept stage through to scheme design for procurement and perform site investigations. Work will involve liaising with the other members of the design team; approval to vendor design and drawings, coordination with contractors. It involves planning and  design of electric circuitry, switchgear, transformers, transmission lines, instrumentation control and automation (ICA) 

Essence of role – key accountabilities
Your priorities in this role will include:

  • preparation of conceptual DPR stage design
  • taking a design from concept stage through to scheme design for procurement
  • preparation and submission of contract documents, technical specifications, design notes, reports and drawings for electro mechanical works
  • detailed design for electrical circuitry, switchgear, transformers, transmission lines, instrumentation control and automation for HEP schemes
  • approval to vendor design
  • site inspection and commissioning support
  • requirement to interface with both in-house and client design and project teams

Job requirements
Technical / professional expertise
The ideal candidate should possess an Electrical engineering degree and preferably a post graduation in electrical engineering or in instrumentation/control systems or equivalent; and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge:

  • good industry knowledge and contacts
  • knowledge of engineering design of HV/LV power distribution and  protection
  • knowledge of Switchgear, Motor Control centres, standby diesel generation, UPS
  • ability to design cabling
  • lightning protection, earthing and bonding, discrimination studies
  • knowledge of Amtech design software
