Transportation commercial manager, transportation, Sydney Australia, ref: IRC6766

Role purpose

The sector currently includes a diversity of resources and product offerings covering regulation; transaction support; rail operations and business planning; scheme feasibility; MIS and asset management.

The sector leverages significant value through use of resources external to the group in high margin consultancy areas. A key objective of this role is to further develop and enhance this position within the market.

Essence of role – key accountabilities

The role has principal accountability for specification, implementation and integration of business development, resource management and operational strategies to meet regional transportation and Halcrow group objectives.

Job requirements
Technical / professional expertise

  • Work with the Head of Rail Business to establish the budget for the team for each financial year, include earnings, contribution and overheads
  • lead the Transportation Commercial team in identifying and setting business targets. Including regular meetings to identify emerging business opportunities and tenders, and to co-ordinate the team or broader Halcrow response to ensure a proactive approach is taken for all opportunities
  • lead the decision making process in relation to Halcrow’s capability to bid on potential tenders and to deliver proposal requirements
  • manage the financial performance of the individual projects by the team.
  • identify and prioritise training needs to ensure current and future business needs are matched
  • provide technical support to all Transportation Commercial staff across Australia
  • a sound appreciation of how customer service impacts on service delivery  in the consulting environment
  • well honed commercial acumen and proven experience in winning new business
  • excellent project management skills and a proven track record in successful project delivery
  • capability to effectively lead, develop and motivate a diverse team of professionals working on a variety of projects
  • excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills
  • high level influencing and negotiation skills coupled with energy and enthusiasm
  • a degree or equivalent qualification in Mathematics, Economics, Transport Planning or contract and commercial management.
