Operations director, property business group, Dubai, UAE, ref: IRC7264

Role purpose

The Operations Director is a member of the Business Group management committee, which is collectively responsible for delivering the business group financial and other targets and providing the strategic vision and dynamic leadership to the business group as a whole.

Essence of role – key accountabilities

The Operations Director has particular responsibility for the operational and project profitability of the Business Group and ensuring that a commercial culture is developed and maintained within the Business Group to complement technical activities.

Job requirements
Technical / professional expertise

Strategic

  1. Leads the operational activities of the Business Group and the development of its commercial policies
  2. Contributes to the development of Business Group strategy and identifies the commercial implications of agreed strategies and plans
  3. Liaises with and supports the Halcrow Group Commercial Director as necessary, particularly in developing Halcrow Group policy with respect to commercial issues

Tactical

  1. Ensures, using centrally provided financial information and data provided by BG Finance Director that the technical and financial performance of projects meets or exceeds client expectations and BG budgets respectively
  2. Assists the BG Development Director in identifying opportunities for new and innovative contract relationships with new and existing clients
  3. Implements Halcrow Group policy regarding new and potential types of contract relationships with project providers and supply chain members (eg, prime contracting, joint ventures)
  4. Fosters good relationships with the management teams of other business groups, in particular the other Operations Directors, and with the Regional Managing Directors and their senior teams

Administrative

  1. Liaises with the BG Development Director and the BG Finance Director with regard to the commercial and risk considerations applicable to bids throughout the Business Group
  2. Liaises with the BG Resources Director in respect of training initiatives relating to commercial management skills within the Business Group
  3. Monitors project performance and investigates issues and problems. With assistance from Market Sector Directors, monitors performance of individual Project Directors and Managers and takes necessary actions to ensure that they meet or exceed the financial targets for their projects
  4. Ensures that debts and major claims forextra fees are pursued vigorously, and in a timely manner by the Project Directors and Project Managers, in consultation with the BG Finance Director
  5. Ensures compliance with Group directives regarding terms and conditions of engagement and assessment/management of risk
  6. Undertakes project and/or management roles and tasks as delegated by the BG Group Board Director

The BG Operations Director will have:

  • a proven track record in management within a consultancy business at a senior level, with a thorough understanding of how profit is generated by contract terms and high quality commission management
  • a demonstrated ability for team working and building relationships, internal and external
  • a commitment to and an ability to create a team-based working culture, both within and across Business Group boundaries
  • extensive experience of multi-disciplinary consultancy assignments internationally
  • keen awareness of current developments in the commercial environment for consultancy
  • a proven ability to deliver outputs to the required quality, on time and on budget
