Senior Transportation Planner, Consulting, Vancouver Canada, ref IRC7285

Role purpose

Halcrow Consulting Inc. is well known in Canada for its transportation planning expertise and modelling capabilities. HCI is actively involved in travel demand modelling and forecasting in support of large scale environmental assessment studies for both rapid transit and road projects, and in investment grade ‘traffic and revenue’ studies for major toll road projects in Eastern North America.

Essence of role – key accountabilities

As a member of our North American team, the Senior Transportation Planner is involved in contributing to the growth of our transportation planning business by conducting research and analysis for a variety of transportation planning related studies.

Typical studies include transport planning and policy studies, traffic and revenue forecasting (for toll road and transit projects), traffic engineering and planning studies, travel habits surveys, database/GIS analysis and information system development.
Job requirements

Technical / professional expertise:

management of travel demand forecasting projects, using transport modeling software.
use of models to determine the effects of infrastructure (road and transit) projects, transportation demand management (TDM) initiatives and land use changes.
development of computer applications to support transportation models, transportation and land use databases and GIS. 
calibration and validation of new transportation models.
leading on the design of travel surveys including, database/GIS analysis and information system development.
responsible for validating and processing data, analyzing the data and preparing reports summarizing the results and findings.
Involvement in traffic engineering and planning using micro-simulation and/or mesoscopic packages (such as Vissim, Aimsun, Paramics, Transmodeler, Dynameq)
mentoring, training and co-ordination of more junior staff with respect of travel demand forecasting and use of transport modelling software.
development of client relationships and new leads, bid preparation, and business development. Preparation of written and graphic material for reports and presentations.

Candidates will be fully conversant with EMME, and experienced in the management of large scale travel demand studies, including forecasting and transportation model development. Familiarity with other macroscopic modeling packages (such as TransCAD, CUBE) is an asset, as is experience of micro-simulation packages.  Proven report writing skills, and experience of managing, training and mentoring junior staff are essential requirements. Some travel in North America is likely to be required.
