Halcrow Yolles’ Building Science Services focuses on the integration, restoration and design of the building envelope systems. Our professional services include historic restoration and repair, as well as the design and construction of building envelope components across a wide array of projects.

Essence of role – key accountabilities

In this position, the incumbent will perform investigative, design, as well as project management tasks for diverse and innovative building science projects primarily focusing on the design, rehabilitation and restoration of various building envelopes.

Job requirements

Technical / professional expertise

  • perform investigations and reviews of building envelope systems including roofing, exterior cladding and window systems.
  • preparation of building envelope specifications, drawings and terms of reference for restoration projects.
  • conduct field reviews during restoration or construction.This will include monitoring progress according to specifications, conformity to building codes and standards, and preparation of site review reports.
  • attend client meetings when necessary
  • performing building envelope simulations and calculations.
  • providing general technical and administrative support to the building envelope team.
  • mentor and oversee the professional development of junior members of the department.
  • ability to understand and interpret building envelope details.
  • proficiency in the use of various computer applications such as Word, Excel, W.U.F.I., Therm, Window and MOIST.
  • trained in the use of suspended access equipment.
  • excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • proven ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • this position involves performing physical activities such as climbing stairs and ladders, as well as working at various heights.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Applied Science, Architecture or equivalent.
  • minimum 4 years of relevant project experience specifically relating to building envelope design, rehabilitation and restoration.
  • experience with a diverse assortment of building materials, systems and products.
