Role purpose
Halcrow Pakistan is a separate but wholly owned P&L entity within Halcrow Group Limited. The company has a staff of 200 people based in Islamabad and Karachi offices, delivering local and international projects working with other project teams in Halcrow offices in UAE and the UK.
Our primary market sectors include environmental and civil works for upstream oil and gas exploration companies; design of building structures for architects and developers; design of primary infrastructure for blue chip land developers such as Emaar; rural development and water resource planning studies for World Bank and Asian Development Bank; and increasingly work share with other Halcrow offices.
Essence of role – key accountabilities
The company intends to grow its business in the land development (primary infrastructure) sector both locally and regionally. Currently the company is working with blue chip clients like Emaar in Pakistan and is working with UAE offices on iconic projects such as Yas Island in Abu Dhabi and Lusail in Qatar.
The company wants to strengthen its primary infrastructure team by providing a leadership role to a person who can help grow and deliver the business to both internal (other Halcrow offices) and external clients.
Job requirements
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- in close coordination with the Development Director foster relationships with internal and external clients. Participate in the preparation of bids/tenders to prospective clients
- act as the Project Director for overall management of the primary infrastructure projects working with the project managers and staff with diverse skills (roads, bridges, water supply, foul drainage, power etc) for the delivery of the projects. Overall responsibility to the Managing Director for the technical, financial and programme management and delivery of primary infrastructure projects
- assess gaps and in close coordination with the resources manager help improve the technical knowledge and skills of people either through training or external recruitment for delivery of projects
- mentor project managers to take on greater responsibility triggered by growth or for succession planning
The ideal candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge.
- strong inter-personal and team building skills. Able to work with people from diverse skill groups and cultures.
- client focussed, understand client’s needs, builds relationship with clients, gain their confidence by delivering required solutions on time
- lead people by example, use knowledge and attitude as source of power rather then authority alone
- commercially astute, able to manage the financial performance of projects
- good presentation and communication skills
- experienced in managing and delivery of primary infrastructure projects from concept design through to construction
- Innovative and keeps abreast of industry best practices and technology
- experience in delivering and managing primary infrastructure projects internationally and ideally in the ME region.
- bachelors’ (or equivalent) or preferably masters’ (or equivalent) degree in civil engineering.
