Resident engineer, maritime, Khor Khuwair, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE - ref: IRC7566
Role purpose
The site is located on the coastline of Ras Al Khaimah between Al Rams to the south and Mina Saqr to the north.
The proposed Works comprise, but are not limited to, the following items:
- dredging to –7.0m and –9.0m Chart Datum (CD) in the access channel and port basin (estimated volume of dredging 5 million m3) the majority of the dredging of the port basin will actually be excavated in the dry;
- construction of approximately 5km of blockwork quay wall (11m retained height) around the perimeter of the port basin;
- reclamation behind the quay wall to formation level (estimated volume of reclamation 5 million m3);
- provision of quay furniture (bollards, fenders, etc.);
- block paving behind the quay wall to a distance of 20m from the cope line;
- provision of aids to navigation
Essence of role – key accountabilities
The principal function of this position is to:
- ensure the works are constructed in accordance with the Contract, the approved design, in a safe manner and to the Contractor’s submitted programme of Works.
- ensure the Contractor’s compliance with safety procedures;
- reporting of any defects, non conformities and unsafe practices.
- liaise with Contractor and review and approve, where required, any proposed remedial actions or deviation from the contract drawings or material Specifications.
- process the Contractor’s application for payment;
- management of Halcrow site team.
Job requirements
Technical / professional expertise
The ideal candidate should possess and be able to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge. These points should align with the key areas of responsibility:
- experience of supervision of maritime civil engineering works. In particular precast concrete blockwork quay walls and dredging & reclamation;
- experience of FIDIC Conditions of Contract
- previous Middle East supervision experience (min 5 years)
- computer literate
- a Chartered Civil Engineer, or equivalent with a degree in Civil Engineering;
- estimated duration of Contract is two years.
- the Contractor may be working 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
