Halcrow wins three high-profile awards at ACEC gala
Halcrow walked away with three prestigious awards from The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), New York, at its 2008 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) gala Saturday night, March 29th.
The awards highlight Halcrow’s local and global capabilities, with two diamond awards, the ACEC’s highest honour, and one platinum award, for the following projects:
- Khalifa port planning - a major new port in Abu Dhabi designed with minimal environmental impact. Diamond award for excellence in the category of studies, research and consulting engineering services.
- Jebel Ali port expansion in Dubai - one of the largest expansion programs undertaken as a single project. Diamond award for excellence in the category of transportation engineering.
- Asset information management system major maintenance report 2006 in New York. Platinum award for excellence in the category of special projects.
Accepting the diamond awards were client representatives Majid Yavary, deputy director, capital projects-marine, Abu Dhabi Ports Company, and Nazek Al-Sabbagh, managing director of the permitting authority, Dubai Ports World, alongside Halcrow’s Dennis Padron, executive vice president, and Jens Korsgaard, project manager.
Project partners George Oberlander, Jr., project manager, Gannett Fleming, Inc., and Joyce Lee, chief architect, New York City Office of Management and Budget, joined Halcrow’s Kirk Riden, market sector director, asset management, Doug Friend, principal engineer diver, and Patrick King, regional director, maritime to accept the platinum award.
The EEA recognizes engineering achievements that demonstrate the highest degree of ingenuity from its member firms. Each year a distinguished panel of judges selects the finest engineering designs, plans and studies by New York state consulting engineering firms, based on criteria such as uniqueness and originality; technical value to the engineering profession; social and economic considerations; complexity; and success in meeting client goals.
The gala was held at the Waldorf-Astoria in midtown Manhattan.
