UK: Halcrow presents cheque to Acorns Hospice

Halcrow’s Worcester office presented a cheque of £2,043.50 to Acorns Children’s Hospice on Tuesday 5 February 2008.

In December staff at the London Road office cycled the distance it would take to travel to all 23 of Halcrow’s UK offices as well as holding a raffle for the local hospice.

Four static bikes on a rolling road were set up outside the building. Many staff volunteered to take hour or half-an-hour slots on the bikes. The distance they needed to ride was just over 2,000 miles, so there were some tired people around the office!

Sophie James, community fundraiser for the charity proclaimed: “It’s a phenomenal amount to have raised. It will make a huge difference to the lives of the families and children we support.”

The hospice helps the children that have a life-limiting condition, and their families, and Halcrow are delighted to be able to make such a donation and raise awareness of the charity.

Event organiser, Greg Dobbins said: “Not only was it great fun for the people taking part and lots of money was raised for a good cause, but it also highlighted Halcrow’s pledge to sustainability with the promotion of cycling as a form of transport”.

Climb on Bikes of Hereford kindly contributed three of the bikes and four turbo trainers for the event.
