Halcrow PPP specialist addresses US industry
Halcrow’s Manju Chandrasekhar addressed the 4th Annual Public Private Partnerships USA Summit in Washington, DC, on 6 February, with a presentation on private-public partnerships (PPP) in the maritime sector. He joined a speaker panel which included representatives from investment banks and public authorities.
He shared his knowledge and experience of the different levels of private-sector participation in maritime projects, with examples from the US and around the world. He also outlined the rewards PPPs can offer when implemented well.
The following day, at the American Association of Port Authorities Cruise Seminar in San Francisco, he delivered a presentation on cruise terminal financing through public-private partnerships to an audience of approximately 75 industry executives from port authorities and cruise lines. He spoke about the pitfalls some US projects have fallen into using PPP on green-field sites, contrasting with examples of successes with brown-field sites, as well as commenting on how best to engage with financial institutions.
“While a relatively new concept to the US, PPP has already proved itself as an effective means by which to finance major infrastructure projects,” said Manju. “Handled in the right way, PPP arrangements can deliver benefits for all parties.”
