Halcrow awarded Peterborough Development Framework, UK

Halcrow's Peterborough-based development planning team has been awarded a development framework and the production of a supporting development brief for Peterborough's Station Quarter.

Working on behalf of Peterborough City Council, Halcrow will begin work in September.

The Station Quarter, comprising 17.9ha of brownfield land, is one of the priorities within the Peterborough City Centre Framework (CCF). The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has also identified it as a key project for growth as part of the government's Sustainable Communities Plan.

Steve Scott, Halcrow's project manager comments "This is an extremely important project for the city of Peterborough and for Halcrow. It enhances our growing reputation in the city and the wider East of England region, and reinforces our credentials in master-planning and urban design."

The Development Brief will provide an Urban Design Framework, a statement of development principles, to supplement existing planning policy, and will prescribe acceptable uses for specific parts of the site. It is intended that the new Station Quarter will include a new station; bus interchange; and a substantial commercial, mixed use and residential complex.

Halcrow is supported by a number of consultants including Dutch firm Urhahn Urban Design. Urhahn Urban Design will be contributing European best practice to the project process.
