A90 project receives commendation

The Saltire Society has awarded the A90 Forfar Bypass Glamis and Kirriemuir Interchanges a Project Commendation in its recent awards ceremony. Held in Glasgow, the Saltire Awards recognise excellence in Civil Engineering in Scotland. This Commendation was awarded in recognition of the successful and thorough performance of the conceptual, design and construction processes.

The A90 Forfar Bypass Glamis and Kirriemuir Interchanges, located near Forfar in north eastern Scotland, involved the project team working successfully to deliver a design and construct contract for the provision of two new compact interchanges on the heavily trafficked A90 Forfar bypass. The interchanges replace two existing junctions which had unacceptable accident levels of twice the national average. Halcrow, working on behalf of the Scottish Executive, was responsible for the scheme’s design.

Commenting on the commendation, Halcrow’s project director, Jim McAlindin said “The interchanges succeeded in meeting the aims of the Scottish Executive and Angus Council by increasing road safety while minimising land take and traffic disturbance. Environmental enhancements were achieved through extensive landscaping and the use of eco-friendly drainage systems. With all costs kept under strict control from the outset, the interchanges were completed on time and within budget.”
