Halcrow named as technical adviser on A$1.5 billion project
Halcrow, the planning, design and management consultant, has been appointed technical adviser for the A$1.5 billion partial renewal of the passenger train fleet serving the Sydney area.
Chris Adams, Halcrow’s regional director in Sydney explains, “Covering one third of the trains, the public private partnership (PPP) project is one of the largest of its kind in Australia and will involve the design, manufacture, maintenance and financing of 500 railcars over a 30 year period. The timescales are challenging with the first trains due in service during 2008 and completion of the build stage by 2010.”
Halcrow has been engaged by Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp) to provide a range of technical services including the development of performance specifications; short listing of bidders and tender evaluation; and through to recommendation of preferred tenderer. Halcrow will work alongside PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), as financial advisers and Clayton Utz, as legal advisers.
The Halcrow team will be lead by Chris Adams, with Graham Holden, market sector manager for rail engineering, and Tony Swift, senior transportation consultant, forming the core team. There will be further input from Halcrow’s Australian and worldwide offices. Additional specialist maintenance support will be provided by Indec Consulting.
