Booming business leads to expansion in Peterborough
Halcrow, one of the UK’s leading engineering and environmental consultancies has celebrated the move of its Peterborough office to larger premises in the city. The company’s expansion in comes soon after it released impressive growth figures for the last two years. The office was formally opened on 9 September by Councilor Raja Akhtar, Mayor of Peterborough.
Halcrow’s regional director James Rowntree explains, “We have been in Peterborough since 1987 when we started with a small office of 3 in the city centre providing professional services to what was then Anglian Water Authority. Since this time we have grown substantially and now have 64 staff providing a wide range of engineering and environmental consultancy advice to regional, national and international clients. The principal drivers behind our success have been our two main key clients in the region, the Environment Agency and Anglian Water. Our office expansion will allow us to invest even further in the quality of service delivery we provide to our existing clients, as well as allowing us to diversify the overall range of services we provide.”
Since the office move to Endeavour House in July, Halcrow have already secured a prestigious contract with Peterborough City Council to look at the Peterborough Station Quarter Masterplan Study. This will be delivered by Halcrow’s urban planning team in collaboration with Dutch urban designers Urhahn.
Halcrow’s regional expansion is now enabling the office to provide consultancy services in all major areas, including flood management and navigation, coastal engineering, maritime engineering, water supply, wastewater, mechanical and electrical engineering, environment, urban and transport planning, geotechnics and highways.
“Halcrow was awarded the Investors in People standard in 2002 and we are committed to a programme of continued training and investment,” continues James. “Our training programme for graduates has been recognised by the major engineering institutions and all employees benefit from the training opportunities available in Halcrow, and the structured approach to career development. This in turn creates an environment where staff are motivated, and clients benefit from our investment. We have a dedicated team of people in Peterborough.”
