Halcrow receives mayor and mayoress - Swindon, UK
Halcrow chairman Tony Allum and staff from Chiseldon-based Halcrow were delighted to welcome Swindon’s mayor, Raymond Fisher, and mayoress, Christine Fisher, to Halcrow’s offices at Burderop Park today.
Tony Allum briefed the mayor and mayoress on the company’s business objectives, and highlighted some of the work with which the 600 Swindon-based staff are currently involved. A number of presentations were given, including one on the proposals for London’s new bridge, the Thames Gateway Crossing and one on a study into the changing nature of the British coastline.
Halcrow, one of the UK's largest civil engineering consultancies, has been involved in some of the world's most impressive projects - including The El Ferdan Swing-Bridge, Egypt; the High Speed 1, Channel Tunnel Rail Link, UK; West Bay Complex, Qatar; Incheon International Airport, S Korea; and the Second Severn Crossing.
Terence Tovey, technical director, escorted the mayor and mayoress around Burderop Park. The mayor stopped to talk to coastal scientists, bridge engineers, environmentalists and IT specialists - representing a good cross-section of the Halcrow community.
Tony Allum commented “We were delighted to welcome our guests and to show them some of our projects. The mayor and mayoress took great interest in our work, and we were able to show them how Halcrow is contributing to water, property and transport schemes throughout the world.”
