Michael Fishman joins Halcrow

Halcrow has announced the appointment of Michael Fishman to its New York office. Michael will be joining the company’s consulting business as associate director . He brings a personal commitment to urban problem solving that is focused on continually improving the health of our built, natural and social environments.

In 1995, he was vice president of Sam Schwartz LLC, a traffic engineering and transportation consulting firm based in Lower Manhattan. Michael helped former New York City traffic commissioner ‘Gridlock Sam’ develop the 60 person firm.

Michael studied at the Tulane University School of Architecture, New Orleans, obtaining a Masters Degree in 1994. Since completing his thesis, he has continued to pay careful attention to how cities prone to crisis prepare and repair their infrastructure systems.

He is currently a professor of urban planning at Columbia University School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

Commenting on his appointment, Michael said, “ My expertise is in urban design, transportation and strategic infrastructure planning. I am charged with the development of Halcrow’s consulting business within these sectors within New York and North America.

I believe that Halcrow can offer valuable new insights to these civil infrastructure markets and gain a reputation for collaboration, creativity, communication, environmental, social, and economic responsibility”.
