Halcrow appointed as a Notified Body for high speed rail interoperability
The Strategic Rail Authority has appointed Halcrow as a Notified Body for high-speed rail interoperability.
Halcrow joins nine other organisations in the UK who are n otified bodies .
As a Notified Body, Halcrow will be responsible for confirming that new and upgraded high-speed railway works are designed and built to meet the requirements for interoperability throughout the European high speed rail network.
The process requires all new and upgraded high-speed trains and infrastructure to comply with technical standards for Interoperability.
The scope of the appointment covers the rolling stock subsystem and the control - command and signalling subsystem. It is planned that this scope will be expanded to cover other subsystems in the future.
Halcrow’s technical director for rail engineering, Richard Lindop, said “this appointment is a major opportunity for Halcrow to expand the range of services that it can offer to clients across the rail industry in the UK and Europe”.
It is expected that the legislation for interoperability will be extended later this year to cover all main line routes and rolling stock and Halcrow will be applying for appointment as a Notified Body for conventional rail in order to provide an approvals service for these.
